Dr. Kurt Lutgens
Dr. Kurt Lutgens is the owner and founder of Battenkill Veterinary
Equine. He graduated from Cornell University Vet School with his
DVM degree in 1978  and  began practicing on all large and small
animals. He ultimately decided to practice exclusively on horses in
1987. Dr. Lutgens has vast knowledge and experience in all facets
of Equine medicine and is especially proficient in lameness and
reproduction.
In his precious spare time he has raised three sons and enjoys
boating, fishing camping, scuba diving and working around his own
farm.
Dr. Brian Velenchenko
Graduated from Cornell University Vet School in 2011. After graduation, he interned
at Littleton Equine Medical Center outside of Denver Colorado. Dr. Velenchenko also
has completed training in Acupuncture and is excited to offer this service.  Prior to
attending vet school, Dr. Velenchenko was a commercial photographer in New York
City. He grew up spending the summers working on his grandfather’s ranch, and
aspired to be a veterinarian someday.
Dr. Scott Lutgens
Dr. Scott Lutgens, the son of Dr’s Kurt Lutgens and Gretchen Allen, is a 2014
graduate of St. Georges University School of Veterinary Medicine. He also received
his Masters Degree in Public Health in an effort to raise awareness about diseases
that affect both humans and our animal companions. “Young” Dr. Lutgens completed
his clinical year of veterinary school at Cornell University while gaining experience
and developing a strong interest in equine sports medicine. He is a mixed animal
practitioner dedicated to serving both large and small animals.
During his childhood he spent countless hours on the family farm learning small
business management, animal handling skills and raising registered Holsteins.
Prior to veterinary school he received a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University
majoring in animal science. Outside of veterinary medicine Dr. Lutgens enjoys
working on the family farm and “just being outdoors”.  One day he hopes to allow his
parents to retire and carry on Battenkill Veterinary’s tradition of providing high quality
compassionate animal care.
